2016 round-up at WJ Group

December 12 2016

It’s been a busy year. Like so many companies, WJ Group has worked hard to develop its market during 2016 and provide the best possible service to its customers. Capacity has grown, services available have developed and the WJ team has welcomed some new faces and undertaken some good charitable work.

Here’s a round-up of the highlights for 2016 at WJ Group. Looking back makes us appreciate just why we’ve kept so busy. It is also constructive to review how well the company has moved forward during the last 12 months.

January/February: DeckMark Plus accreditation

The DeckWright Anti-Slip brand is first audited and then fully accredited with the TDCA’s DeckMark Plus scheme. Formal recognition of the high quality and longevity of the DeckWright brand, including DeckWright Inserts of course.

February: Rochester face-lift

Taking great pride in our timber treatment centres in both Rochester and Hull, the Rochester team complete a series of improvements at the site that helps with the flow of work, reinforcement of the branding and the overall look and feel of the facility.

March: DeckWright Inserts external stand

As spring arrives, we launch our new timber merchandising stand for DeckWright Inserts, allowing merchants and retailers to display this product outside, next to their decking display if required – whatever the weather!

April: record breaking figures at Tower House Lane

Increased timber treatment capacity at our Hull treatment site allows us to step up for a customer, running the site 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Should you need the volume, we have proved our capability to deliver.

May: welcome to John Cook

Strengthening the core team of WJ Group, we welcome John Cook at Operations Manager at Hull. With a huge amount of experience in lean manufacturing and world class operations, John has since implemented many improvements to our operations, with notable benefits to our customers.

July: WJ Group wins Made in Hull award

Celebrating Hull excellence in manufacturing, WJ Group wins this prestigious Yorkshire award, run annually as part of Humber Business Week. Mark Eggleston even dons a jacket to receive the award…still no tie.

July: welcome to Andrew Pantry

Strengthening the team in Hull, Andrew Pantry joins the business as Treatment Plant Manager. Equipped with a raft of relevant experience in the timber industry, Andrew has since worked hard to further develop the busy site into a slick operation that puts the needs of customers first.

September: exhibiting DeckWright at Glee

DeckWright and specifically DeckWright Inserts are showcased once more at Glee in Birmingham – an important trade show for the garden and landscape market. Interest is high and it all helps to widen the awareness of this robust anti-slip decking product.

September: The Hull Marathon

Mark Eggleston proves that he can run a marathon if he puts his mind to it: 4 hours 21 minutes and 21 seconds. It is all in the name of the GAIN charity and the team of five raise an impressive donation, which is still growing today.

October: DeckWright at Grand Designs Live

The very first consumer show for DeckWright, aiming to build awareness amongst an audience of 60,000 and drive enquiries to DeckWright stockists across the UK. Concern over slippery decking is widespread. These people need to learn about the robust and reliable solution that is available to them.

November: helping two Hull-based causes

Simply supplying some materials to a charity or cause can make a significant difference to its success. WJ Group plays a part in the Youth in Nature and Project Hotdog activities – making a modest contribution to our many communities in Hull.
