New Operations Manager joins Hull team

May 09 2016

We welcome John Cook, who joins WJ Group in a brand new role as Operations Manager. John brings with him a huge amount of experience and knowledge that is set to optimise the operational side of the company in all sorts of ways, ever improving the service that we offer our customers.

John Cook WJ GroupA third generation engineer, John has held many senior operations management roles, latterly managing product teams in manufacturing environments. Recent roles include six years as head of operations at Smith and Nephew in Gilberdyke and head of operations at Bankside Patterson – a key supplier to the Hull caravan manufacturing business.

John has a huge amount of experience in lean manufacturing and world class operations – something that WJ Group intends to learn from. He’s worked with some of the best practitioners in the world such as Toyota and GE. Most recently, John has gained an in depth insight into the caravan manufacturing industry, supporting companies such as Swift, Victory, Willerby, ABI, Carnaby Caravans and Europa.

Just one month into his role, John is very positive about the culture and operations at WJ Group and confident that he can make a marked and sustainable difference: “I’m really excited about this opportunity with WJ Group, joining a team that really wants the best for the company. There’s a very positive culture at the heart of WJ and my experience suggests that this is a fantastic place to build from, allowing for effective and sustainable developments for the benefit of the company and all of its customers. I’ve already been able to make a start on tailoring some of the systems and metrics within the company and we’ve succeeded in achieving some quick wins. More is certainly to come as we continue on our path towards world class manufacturing.”

Mark Eggleston, WJ Group MD is also very optimistic about the addition of John to the WJ Group operations team: “As the company goes from strength to strength in terms of production, so too must the people and skills behind it. John is a welcome addition to the team and we expect to learn a great deal from his experience and knowledge. As the company continues to develop, we will create further new roles across the company to ensure that we can serve our customers to the best of our ability – we’re learning and developing all the time.”

Believing in old fashioned values in all that he does, John takes this to heart with his 170 year old Yorkshire cottage, spending much time lovingly renovating it along with his wife and three cats (though I doubt the cats are much help). The cottage boasts one of the oldest working back boiler ranges in the country – still capable of baking excellent Yorkshire puddings!
